The South Dakota Community Foundation

Early last spring, we were excited to partner with the South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) on a three-part print ad series that would appear in the South Dakota Magazine throughout the second half of 2015. The goal of the project was to focus each print ad on one of the foundation’s key audiences and programs, yet create a look and a story that weaved the ads together consistently.

The SDCF has been in existence since 1987 and has been investing in people and communities across our great state of South Dakota since then. Donors looking to give and families looking to leave a legacy, partner with the SDCF, communicate their charitable goals, and the SDCF administers their funds according to those goals and wishes.

Appealing to many people and organizations, the SDCF seeks to educate and make it easy for the following groups to get involved with the foundation:

  • Everyday Donors making both smaller and larger gifts, on a weekly, monthly or annual basis
  • Financial Advisors who help their clients identify smart, yet meaningful, ways to invest their money
  • Non-Profit Organizations looking to apply for grants
  • Communities interested in starting a Community Savings Account

After learning more about the foundation, and their newest “Growing For Good” program, allowing landowners to give a gift of land or real estate (instead of or in addition to money), Caliber began crafting copy and developing creative based on the insight that the SDCF sows seeds for South Dakota. They plant seeds, facilitate growth, and back great causes, people and organizations and make it easy for anyone to get involved. This inspired the seasonal imagery and playful copy that composed each ad.

Take a look at the ad series above: the first ad ran in July/August, the second in September/October and the final one is on stands now, in the November/December issue of South Dakota Magazine. Be sure to check it out on the inside back cover!
