Get To Know Erica

More than just a dog-loving millennial looking for a job.
When I graduated college I was more than just a dog-loving millennial looking for a job. I was an entrepreneur. I was an inbound marketing enthusiast. And I was a transplant – straight out of Fargo, ND in pursuit of warmer weather, which I found (beleive it or not). The first thing my husband and I did when deciding to relocate our lives to a souther region, with no familial relationships, was look into what Sioux Falls had to offer in terms of local entrepreneurship and community. Having been a part of the enthusiastic Fargo startup scene and growing entrepreneurial-minded culture, we knew that the most welcoming place for us would be with these same types of people. Luck would have it that I stumbled across a Facebook page for this really awesome looking Bakery. But it wasn’t actually a bakery. It was a coworking space – even better. Long story short and two memberships later, we were hanging at the local Caribou when we get this call, “Hey, Clint here, just wanted to make sure you meant to sign up for this?” They thought we were crazy, mostly because it looked like we lived in Fargo and they weren’t even open yet. But no, it wasn’t an accident, that’s just the kind of people Jake (my husband) and I are. Crazy. Or, you know, adventurous and faithful that it will all work out. Oh… and really into entrepreneurship.
Let’s rewind
In the past four years I’ve ran seven social media accounts for a local Fargo magazine, coordinated two charity fashion shows with over 500 attendees, was treasurer and president of the fashion and business organization at North Dakota State University, and graduated with a major and two minors in merchandising, business administration, and public relations/advertising. Along the way I discovered a passion for entrepreneurship and community that led me to dive right into two startup weekends, a variety of social media and PR conventions and a handful of networking events. I’ve had the chance to meet some amazing self-starters and dream pursuers along the way with big ideas and go-getter attitudes. I’ve worked in the publishing industry, advertising industry, coworking industry and freelanced in web mapping, event coordination, project management, as well as PR and brand communication. All of this led me to completely falling in love with with… well everything.
Diversify
So, you could say reading my portfolio is a bit like getting whiplash. Which actually made me perfect for my new position as account coordinator at Caliber Creative. They just so happened to be looking for someone with experience in office management, knowledge of media traffic and content management systems, and an interest in client projects. And I couldn’t be happier! The Caliber team is, honestly, amazing. Everyone has been overwhelmingly friendly. Not to mention I have never worked for a more organized team. Their file systems have me in awe. Their diversified clientele thrills me. And the chance to work with great clients and great coworkers is all anyone can really ask for.
The me me.
Although I love a good hustle, believe it or not, that isn’t all I do. Being new in town I’m currently on the hunt for the more hidden side of Sioux Falls. Otherwise known as the “hipster” destinations. I love a good iced coffee, chill spot, or hidden alley. So far, one of my favorite places is ODE to Food in Cherapa Place, downtown Sioux Falls. The unique atmosphere and delicious food is always a go-to for me and my coffee dates. Otherwise, I’m still in the process of getting to know the city, the people, and anything else I need to know to be a real bonafide local.
