Pineapples, Patterns, and Prints

By Caliber Creative

The weather is hot, the colors are bright, and the patterns are wild. We are in the middle of summer, so let’s celebrate some of the fun looks showing up in the design industry with a short highlight reel. Many designers are drawing inspiration from nature with a twist, using the images in interesting patterns and unique large-scale applications.

As a graphic designer, I have an appreciation for many different styles. Below is what a small section of my dream home might look like; or maybe I should just take a trip to Morocco and bring back a small souvenir. How is this relevant to the design applications mentioned? This architecture emphasizes layering multiple prints with vibrant colors.

Now without further ado, here are the trends that I have selected from my Pinterest collection that have been crossing the graphic design, fashion, and interior design industries.

1. Subjective Color in Nature

Plant patterns are popular. If you liked leaves, fruits, and vegetables before, change the original color and it will feel like a fresh new look. I have a bias towards liking pineapple designs after illustrating one 16 ways for a project!

 2. Pairing Patterned Prints

Wondering when you can wear that wild pattern that you’re not even sure if you like? Right now, it’s summer! If you’re not sure how to pair patterns together well, some brands already do it for you. Maaji Swimwear has a few of my favorite looks right now, combining surprising patterns in clothing, from wolves to flowers.

3. Statement Wallpaper Murals

I came across this amazing thing on Pinterest called wallpaper. Have you heard of it? No, not that outdated stuff that you had an impossible time removing. I’m talking wallpaper from this century. Below are some large prints that fill a wall and can transport you to another place. Try it. You might just like it.
