Summer Fun = More Work, Less Hours.
By Casey Schultz, Agency Partner

Let me be the first to say, I’m excited for Summer. My golf clubs are out of storage and ready for another season. I have grand expectations for my attempt at a landscaping project (thanks to the inspiration from Oakridge Nursery & Landscaping) and I’m ready to shift gears into ‘lake life’ with my family. To be fair, I’m not one of those people that enjoy sweating my way through the days of extreme heat and humidity, but I do enjoy the fact that the brutal Winter weather is temporarily gone. Oh, and I’m excited to offer ‘Summer Hours’ to our staff.
After all, they deserve it.
Summer Hours here at Caliber span from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. On Fridays, we close up shop around noon in an effort to let everyone get a jump-start on their weekend. Beyond just being a perk of working at Caliber, this modified schedule has a few other hidden benefits.
Focus – Even though the Spring & Summer seasons are busy times for us. Our team does a great job of keeping up with the hectic pace to allow everyone to take advantage of the condensed workday on Friday. How? Prioritize your workload and focus on what matters most. This is a collective effort since all of us have different roles in each project, but open communication between all team members help keep priorities in check.
Trust – On occasion, there are times when a few of us might need to stick around to get a project wrapped up, jump on a quick conference call, or just make sure things are in a good spot with our clients before we check out for the weekend. We trust our team to make this decision on a weekly basis. They know if things aren’t tidy when they leave on Friday, it’s probably going to throw off the start of the following week with them and the rest of the team. No one wants to be the person that’s responsible for derailing everyone else’s week, right?
Health – This is an easy one. Simply by having some extra time to enjoy things outside the office is very important for all of us. Physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, etc… all can benefit from having some extra personal time to enjoy as you wish.
Change of Pace – Being in a creative industry, we don’t ever want to feel like we’re stuck in a rut. Our Summer Hours is a great way to allow everyone to think and work a little differently for part of the year. By now, our senior staff anticipates the change of schedule and knows to plan some of their summer activities accordingly. For our new staff, it’s a new adventure and another reason for them to be fully committed to the success of Caliber as well as give them time to chase some of their personal passions.
I could go on about benefits of Summer Hours here at Caliber, but each of us has different reasons for looking forward to each Summer. For me, just being outdoors in any capacity is what I look forward to; play some golf, take my kids to the waterpark, get the jet skis on the water or hit the road for a family vacation. All of it gets me excited for summer and I can’t wait to get it started.
